Description of series:

Form P.1, collected under Commonwealth Navigation Act, including details of ship, names and description (occupation, sex, age, marital state, country of residence, nationality, race, etc.) of passengers, for port of Melbourne.

The yearly bundles were split into monthly bundles to make the records easier to manage.

All items have been entered on National Archives RecordSearch data base.

History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:

Apparently collected by Department of Trade and Customs, probably transferred to Department of Interior and thence to Immigration Department. This is mere conjecture.

This series was originally transferred to the Archimes Division in 1950 as MT9. In 1951 most of MT9 was destroyed and the remainder re-accessioned as MP56.
