PAPER FILES AND DOCUMENTS
Series note
Description of series:
File titles indicate very broad subject coverage, reflected in the massive thickness of the files (and in the records clerk's ability therefore to dispense with the usual finding aids). The BI/5/- files, for example, cover "Items of Interest"; BR/7/- files deal with renewal of station licences; BT/5/- relates to travel arrangements and associated matters affecting visits of Board members. TR/5/- is concerned with the Royal Commission on Television.

History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
Files contain some papers deriving from the time when functions now exercised by the Broadcasting Control Board were administered by the Postmaster-General's Department. Traces of the registration system current in Central P.M.G. prior to the Board's separate establishment may be found on these early papers. About 1949, they were brought under the control of a three-number system prefaced by the initials "CB". The current system, applied to these files, is of very recent devising and files have been numbered into it only from the first half of 1961.
