Description of series:
Files of the former Divison of Industrial Develipment relating to industry in general, proposals for and actual operation of the motor industry im Australia, and transfer of the property functions of the Division of Industrial Development to the Department of the Interior.  
History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
These files belong to a regisration system which was set up for the Secndary Industries Division of the Ministry of Post-War
Recomstruction in 1943. In 1947 this Division was superseded by the Division of Industrial Development which in 1950 became part of the new Department of National Development/ In 1956 the Division of Industrial Development was abolished. Most of its records, including these files, were taken over by the Industries Division of the newly-formed Department of Trade. Some of the files from the D.I.D. registration system were re-registered but these files have been naintained under that system in the registry of the Victorian Office of the Department of Trade from which they were transferred to archival custody. NOTE: Some of the files erferred to in file number 9/24/659: Transfer of property functions to Department of the Interior - are held in archival custody in accession M.P.271, Set 1.
