Series note
Description of series:
Files from the registry series of the Division of Industrial
Development relating to the disposal of factories owned by the Commonwealth Government, erected for wartime purposes, to private industry.

History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
These files belong to a series which originated with the Secondary Industries Division of the Ministry of Post-War Reconstruction. The S.I.D. was replaced by the Division of Industrial Development in 1947. D.I.D. was subsequently taken over by the Department of National Development when it was set up in 1950. In 1956 the Division of Industrial Development was abolished. Most of its functions were tken over by the Industries Division of the newly-formed Department of Trade. That relating to the disposal of Commonwealth owned factories was, however, taken over by the Department of the Interior. Hence these files, relating to that function, were formally
transferred by that Department, althogh in fact their physical transfer was effected from the registry of the new Department of Trade to archival custody. When first transferred to archival custody these records were accession as MT228.
