Description of series:
Files relating to national and industrial development functions, and referring to decentralisation, finance, building materials survey, industrial information inports and exports, publicity, etc. Some files refer to arrangements for the transfer of Division of
Industrial Development functions to the Industries Division of the Department of Trade.
 
History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
These files belong to a series which originated with the Secondary Industries Division of the Ministry of Post-War Reconstruction. In January, 1948, the name of this Division was changed to Division of Industrial Development. In 1950 this Division became part of the Department of National Development. It was abolished in 1956. Files from this series still held by the Division were, for the greater part, taken over by the newly-formed Department of Trade, and have been transferred to archival custody by this department. During the period in which a new registry system was being set up in the registry of the Victorian Office of the Department of Trade the former Division of Industrial Development general correspondence series continued to operate.
