Description of series:
Files relating to national and industrial development functions of the Division of Industrial Development e.g. recruiting of scientists, technicians, and skilled tradesmen, decentralisation of industry, reports and surveys of certain industries, trade possibilities etc.  
History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
These files belong to a series which originated with the Secondary Industries Division of the Ministry of Post-War Reconstruction. This Division was replaced by the Division of Industrial Development in 1947. This Division was taken over the Department of National Development when it was set up in 1950. In 1956 the Division of Industrial development was abolished. Most of itsrecords were taken over by the Industries Division of the newly-formed Depart- ment of Trade by which these records were transferred to archival custody.
