This series consists of two types of related cards. The initial card is headed Southern Command Inventions Board and includes information such as registry file number (in all cases a multiple number), name of inventor, address and invention type, inwards and outwards correspondence tracking action and other registry activities. The second card sits behind this card and is headed Letter Precis. It provides a brief description of each letter sent or received and the relevant file number. Thus each inventor is assigned at least one of each type of card. The cards are not physically attached. It is unclear whether the Army Inventions Directorate (AID) contributed to the upkeep of this index though the series date range overlaps with the AID's date range. As the AID established its own series of inventor index cards it is thought its role in adding to this register was minimal.
