Series note

Function and purpose

Series M60 contains photographs and cartoons collected by the Rt Hon Sir John McEwen between about 1951 and 1971 when he retired from Parliament.

The photographs appear to be generally black-and-white with some housed in albums whilst other record items are individual photographs. There are several photographs of Sir John McEwen taken with (then) Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt and US President Lyndon B Johnson during President Johnson’s visit to Australia in 1966. Other photographs show McEwen during various official visits overseas. Countries visited include the USA, the United Kingdom, Greece, West Germany, Poland, New Zealand, Japan and India.

The cartoons originate from various Australian newspapers. Some show McEwen with his first wife, Dame Ann McEwen.
