Summary heading ‘One Nation’ economic statement, 1992 Function and purpose Series M4769 contains files maintained by the office of the Hon Paul Keating on the ‘One Nation’ economic statement, which was delivered by Prime Minister Keating on 26 February 1992. Mr Keating was sworn in as Australia’s 24th Prime Minister after taking over the leadership of the Australian Labor Party in 1991. The country had been in a prolonged economic recession. To counteract this, Keating released ‘One Nation’: an economic program intended to create 800,000 jobs by 1996. This series documents the consultation process for ‘One Nation’. Records include: correspondence on consultation and meetings; meeting requests with ministers, business representatives, trade unions and other organisations; meeting notes; and, the 1992 Economic Statement.
