Function and purpose

This series comprises correspondence relating both to Sir John Kerr’s appointment as Chief Justice of New South Wales in 1972 and his Knighthood in 1974.  Included in this series are letters, telegrammes and cards of congratulation from friends and colleagues, in addition to letters of thanks from Sir John Kerr.

System of arrangement and control

The correspondence relating to the Chief Justiceship is not arranged in any perceivable order, and has been made into four parts.  The correspondence relating to the Knighthood, however, has been arranged in alphabetical order, and has been made into four parts.
