PHOTOGRAPHS
Series note
The photographs show areas in the north of France which were scenes of heavy fighting during the First World War. The photographs almost always have the name of the area written on the back and sometimes details of the particularfighting unit in the area are given. The photographs have Map, Square and Sector references as well as the date the photograph was taken and the Negative or Slide number. There is provision for the unit which actually took the photograph to be named but this information is not often included. The above details appear either on thefront or the back of the photograph.
Several photographs are not numbered, but as the photographs
follow a chronological as well as a numerical order the correct place of anunnumbered photograph can be determined.
