Function and purpose
The series comprises general administrative files maintained in the Minister' Office during the period when William McMahon was Minister for External (later Foreign) Affairs. Most of the files relate to general business within the Minister's Office and with the Department, Foreign Affairs Committee, Parliament and the Liberal Party. Other files relate to Parliamentary conferences and delegations, use of VIP aircraft and ministerial cars, the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship and McMahon's overseas visits in 1970.

System of arrangement and control
The original single number system, used for most of the files by Ministerial staff, was extended to the remainder of the series by National Archives in August 2001.
