This series consists of 31 files of photocopies of original documents from accessions CP103/19 and possibly also CP167/2, transferred from the Prime Minister's Department between 1945 and 1949. The photocopies were made in 1980. They mainly relate to the period when Joseph Aloysius Lyons was Prime Minister (1932-1939), although some important ones are concerned with the few months when he was Acting Treasurer in 1930 and to the establishment of the United Australia Party in 1931.
Correspondents represented in the files include political colleagues and associates like Stanley Melbourne Bruce, Dr Earle Page, Sir Henry Gullett, Sir John Latham and William Morris Hughes. Apart from the letters, some speech notes, departmental briefs, Hansard extracts and published material also occur in the series. A single number system of control has been imposed on the files by National Archives. Item 1 is a copy of a listing of the files originally intended to comprise the series (although some items no longer match it), and a few items include their own contents list. The series description was revised as part of the Prime Ministers Papers' Project in March 2002.
