The series consists of tape recordings (cassettes and reel-to-reel tapes) of press conferences and interviews on radio and television mainly given by Mr Whitlam. There are, however, a number of recordings of other political figures from the Labor, Liberal and National Country Parties. All recordings were made by Mr Whitlam's Press Office staff.

On the inventory of items a number of symbols are used; their meaning is as follows:

This series contains audiovisual formats. As audiovisual formats are either redundant or susceptible to deterioration, some items in this series have been copied to ensure their preservation.
