Series M101 is an alphabetical name-based index to Stanley Melbourne Bruce's monthly war files contained in series M100.  The index consists of two folders entitled 'Lord Bruce War Files Index', covering correspondents A-G and H-Z respectively. 

The index is arranged by surname and sometimes by title, for example 'Belgian Ambassador' or 'Bank of England - Governor of'.  Papers are also occasionally listed under an event or meeting such as 'Cabinet meetings' or 'Prime Minister's Conference'.  Correspondence and other documents are entered in chronological order by year, month and day under the surname, title or event heading.  Against each date the subject of the relevant document is described.  The indexes are divided alphabetically with letter tabs.   

Based on the appearance of the typing, it seems possible that the index was compiled retrospectively early in 1943, subsequent entries being added as required.
