Function and purpose
This series comprises correspondence files of the Cocos Islands
Administration Office for the period 1955 to 1960. The subjects covered in
these files document the various activities of the Administration's operations.
This series appears to be the first annual single number series file
registration system operated by the Administration. Various subsequent multiple
number series have been used since. In 1991 it appears an annual single number
series was commenced again.
The Cocos (Keeling) Islands Administration office closed on 31 December 2003
and control of records was taken over by the Department of Transport and
Regional Services, Perth Office (CA 8973).
