Summary heading
K1142 –
Outward passenger manifests for ships departing Fremantle and outports,
chronological series
Function and purpose
This series
comprises lists showing details of persons departing from the port of Fremantle
and Western Australian outports, for interstate and for overseas. The lists are
held in manilla folders with the name of the ship and date of departure printed
on the front covers.
The first
consignment in this series consists of microfilm rolls transferred from the
State Archives of Western Australia, covering the period Dec 1910 – Dec 1915
for Fremantle Outwards, and Jul 1902 – Sep 1903 for Outports Inwards (their
reference AN371/2 Acc457).
Finding aids
Paper
consignment lists for this series are maintained by the Archives’ Perth
Office.
System of arrangement and control
The series
is arranged in chronological order. The original passenger lists were organized
first into alphabetical order by port of departure, then chronologically by
date of departure.
Relationships with other records
This series
forms part of a large group of records that document the movement of people
into and out of Western Australia comprising incoming and outgoing passenger
lists, nominal rolls, crew lists and passenger cards.
Passenger
lists for Western Australia
were originally transferred to the Archives as a large number of individual
accession series. For incoming passenger lists, the accession series were
converted to one CRS K269, maintaining the original agency chronological order.
However, for the period 1904 to 1935, incoming passenger lists for outports
remain as PP281/3 and PP240/3. For outgoing passenger lists, two accession
series were converted to form CRS K1142 covering the period 1898 to 1958
however multiple accession series still control outwards ships manifests for
the period 1898 to 1978. These intellectual relationships have been documented
using related, previous and subsequent series links.
Nominal
rolls, crew lists, outwards passenger lists and passenger cards remain as
individual accession series, and these have all been linked in RecordSearch as
related series. CRS K47 also contains crew lists and nominal rolls and these
have been linked in RecordSearch to their relevant accession series. Consult
the relevant series links for details.
