Alphabetical index to Queensland army servicemen and women enlisting for post-WW2 conflicts
The series consists of proprietory index card folders, cards being secured in the folders by strips of cloth tape. Items and contents are arranged alphabetically by surname of the soldier with elements of the first and last name in each folder inscribed as a range on the spine of each item.
Each card has typed on it the name and regimental number of the soldier. Numbers are prefixed 'Q' (Queensland volunteer), 'QX' (Queensland national serviceman) or, after 1945, in single number series commencing '1' (for First Military District). The addition of an 'F' infix or prefix indicates a female soldier.
Other information entered on cards in handwriting may include; discharge or decease dates, change of name (with or without date), change of regimental number or prefix rank, militia service dates, dates of previous service in other services or foreign armies. Some cards have file numbers of uncertain provenance.
These records have been digitized in full. Transcriptions created by public online volunteers have been loaded against the digitized records as descriptive notes. Individual entries can be searched by checking the 'search notes' box in the advanced search screen.
