Function and purpose
This series is a mix of records created and collected by the Interim Darwin Reconstruction Commission (CA 2275) and then the Darwin Reconstruction Commission (DRC)(CA 2276).
Physical characteristics
A large number of the cuttings are in a fragile state The Newspaper cuttings have been digitised under preservation project P333 to prevent damage or deterioration of original records which as a result of use by NAA staff and clients and to make accessible records for current and future generations.
System of arrangement and control
The items, all listed on recordsearch in three ways.
The first record items in the series are newspaper clippings housed in three individual volumes (scrapbook style), but entered into recordsearch according to their date. These items have been digitised and are available on Recordsearch
The second group of record items in this series are miscellaneous records collected by the Interim DRC and later, the DRC, consisting of (but not limited to) press clippings, media releases, publications, including community newspapers and newsletters, telexes, demolition notices, reports, policy documents, small works advices, minutes of meetings, contracts with redevelopment and construction companies (arranged by contact number), notification of delegations.
The items are generally arranged according to the category/subject designated by the originating agency (for example: (item 7) Browns Mart Restoration; (item 8) Builders disputes; (item 9) airport; (item 85) Citizens Advisory Committee correspondence 1975, and so on).
They relate to the events and activities surrounding Cyclone Tracy, which hit the City of Darwin on the 24th December 1974, and the post cyclone disaster redevelopment of the city and re-establishment of the community.
The third group of record items in this series are Lot Data Sheets. These items are for particular lot numbers/street addresses in the suburbs of Fannie Bay, Parap, Nightcliff, Darwin, Alawa, Rapid Creek, Gardens Hill [The Gardens], Millner, Temira [Larrakeyah], Tiwi, Wanguri, Stuart Park, Jingili, Ludmilla, Moil, Wagaman, Coconut Grove. Some of these relate to "Private Sector Demolition".
