Function and purpose
This series resulted from the culling of two previous record series, D1911, Correspondence files of the Navigation Section, annual single number series with alpha prefix 'NS' and D2014, Correspondence files, single number series with 'SA' prefix. Only the current files held in the agency at the time were top numbered into this record series. The files cover such topics as the maintenance and service of lighthouses and other aids to marine navigation, ship surveys and inspection activities together with ancillary and administrative services. The series ceased with the closure of the agency's Adelaide office on 1 September 1992.
