Function and purpose
Correspondence files relating to specific functions of the agency such as shipping registration, tariff classification, distillers licences etc., as well as management functions common to most agencies. A portion of this series, numbered NB S79/5001 to NB S80/5013 (with gaps), relates to Narcotics Bureau activities. From 1971 file numbers 1-3000 were allocated to the personnel section annually. Files created by registry were allocated numbers from 3001 onwards. Repairs and maintenance to the "old" customs house is well documented in extant files in this series.

Additional information
Some items in this series require preservation. The records in D737/49 contain Thermal paper which has deteriorated to such an extent that it is barely readable. These need to be copied or digitised before the information is lost. There are also photographs mostly from an instamatic camera which need to be housed in acid free plastic sleeves and also digitised.
