This series consists of black and white and colour photographs of buildings, structures, electrical installations, machinery, and topography of Commonwealth controlled areas and examples of associated sites. They were taken by Departmental personnel during site investigations, construction, and at completion. During the design process, designers refer to the collection to assist in making drawings and writing reports. Before and After photographs are used to assist in settling disputes. On occasions client Departments take photographs and give copies to this Department.

The series includes aerial photographs of Maralinga and Woomera, Defence establishments in both SA and NT, Adelaide GPO, metropolitan and country Post Offices and residences, light houses, railway stations, St Margaret's Administrative Building, Daw Park Repatriation Hospital, Repeater Stations, Airports and various Commonwealth buildings.
