Function and purpose

This series consists of drawings and maps relating to the Maralinga area (including maps and drawings associated with British Atomic Tests at Maralinga and Emu test sites and details of support facilities and equipment). Content includes originals (on tracing paper and linen), dyeline copies, and reproducible prints of both local and U.K. sourced drawings.  Most drawings appear to have been top-numbered with a SAL (Salisbury) prefix, although dyeline prints are held of RCM (Range Commander, Maralinga) drawings which were also allocated a SAL number on creation.  Drawings 4240-4285 (with gaps) were forwarded by the Defence Centre to the Department of Resources and Energy, Canberra in July 1985.
