This series contains black and white photographs, films, drawings and maps and glass plate negatives associated with the British Atomic tests at Maralinga and Emu (SA) and surrounding areas.
Some photographs are loose, others are in envelopes with titles on the front of the envelopes. Most photographs are numbered, the relevance of some of the numbers is unknown.
The photographs cover a multiplicity of subjects eg. campsites, equipment, launch - pads, townships, accommodation and some aerial surveys. There are multiple copies of some photographs some of which appear to be print negatives found in D874 ( Still photograph outdoor and studio negatives).
Some photos have been placed into two albums titled "Maralinga Project, Photographic Record, (chronological)" - date range 1953 - 1954?
The films range in size from 14cm to 19cm. Most of the film is enclosed in canisters and titled "Aerial Survey Film". Some canisters are numbered however the relevance of the numbers is unknown.
The glass negatives cover areas such as cables, conduit, electrical circuits, sewerage, plant and roads.
Most of the drawings have a 'SAL' ( Salisbury, South Australia) prefix which appears to have been artificially assigned to provide some method of control. There have been a number of SAL drawings transferred to the Department of Resources and Energy, Canberra in July 1985. There are a few miscellaneous publications including handbooks and booklets.
Glass negatives titled 'Survey 247' were removed from this series, sent to NAA Melbourne office and converted to D5588. Once in Melbourne the negatives were digitized and uploaded to RecordSearch. The original glass plate negatives are not to be issued - view the digital images online.
