Series note

This series consists of the original "Agreement, Account of crew and official log" books of ships which arrived in South Australia. Details such as the ships name, owner and master are recorded in these volumes. Crew information recorded includes age, nationality, home address, particulars of discharge and details of release with a character report. The log books varied in printed information from a fifty page volume in the early 1900's to just a few pages of log entry at the back of the agreement from about 1940 onwards. This series consists of volumes arranged alphabetically by vessels name Each volume contains the following information: Agreement and account of crew. Name of ship, official number, port of registry, port number and date of register, registered tonnage,nominal horsepower of engines (if any), registered owner,master with certificate number Particulars of engagement Reference number, signatures of crew, year of birth or age, nationality (in some earlier items it was "Town or Country"), home address, ship last served, date and place of agreement, in what capacity engaged, number of certificate, amount of wages Particulars of discharge Date, place and cause of leaving this ship, or of death Details of release (including character report). Log books (separate volumes till c1940) Log entries are: date and place of occurence plus details of occurrence including crew problems Date of arrival and departure from each port List of crew with character report Printed information in the earlier log books include official notices relating to: 1. Regulations for preventing collisions at sea 2. Accomodation for seamen on board merchant ships 3. Apparatus for saving life 4. Allotment notes 5. Payment of wages 6. Signals for pilots 7. Signals of distress 8. Collisions 9. Apprehended loss 10. Discharge of seamen and seamen sent home 11. Marriages on board ship 12. Incorrect charts Official log books were separate volumes up to the 1940's, when they became known as: "Agreement, account of crew and official log books". The volumes are in reasonably good condition.

D13 was relocated from South Australia to the ACT in September 2021.
