FUNCTION AND CONTENT
This series mainly consists of typed carbon copies of decoded 'Secret', 'Confidential' and 'Personal' telegrams exchanged between the Secretary of State for the Colonies, the Governor General and a few others including the Prime Minister. The telegrams are concerned with many miscellaneous and unrelated matters to do with the First World War and include the proposed evacuation of Gallipoli, wheat sales, visits overseas, financial matters, gold exports and industrial disputes. As well as the telegrams there are some letters and hand written draft copies of the telegrams from different people.
The telegrams etc are grouped together according to the years in which they were sent and while there appears to be a type of registration number on some items the system used has not been identified and is not extant throughout the series.
