This series consists of one folder of miscellaneous papers of Robert Gordon
Menzies, probably retained for reference purposes. The papers mainly relate to
the late 1930s when he was Attorney General. They include a copy of the index
to Parliamentary Papers 1934-37, R G Casey’s budget speech 1937-38 as
Treasurer, Conciliation and Arbitration Act amendments proposed in 1936 (in an
Attorney-General’s Department file cover), and roneod decisions from the
Premiers' Conference dated 20-21 August 1946.
It appears that, at some point after their transfer to archival custody,
other papers originally in the folder may have been confused with another
accession of miscellaneous Menzies papers (CP450/10). In hindsight, it is
probable that both accessions are simply the residue of a large accession of
Menzies’ personal papers as Attorney General (1934-1939) and, to some extent,
as Prime Minister (1939-1941) now controlled as CP450/7 and CP450/8
respectively. The Prime Minister’s Department transferred these records to
archival custody together about 1951 (ref. RWC 49/4/1).
This series description was revised as part of the Prime Ministers Papers’
Project in June 2002.
