Description of series:
This small series consists of seven files of correspondence of the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Stanley Melbourne Bruce, and includes letters, telegrams and some departmental memoranda. With the exception of one file, which mainly relates to 1928-29, the series covers the period September 1923 to early February 1924 when Bruce was overseas and Dr Earle Page was Acting Prime Minister. The correspondents include Page, Sir Robert Perks, Sir Fabian Ware, Sir Joseph Cook, staff of the Prime Minister's Department and the UK Board of Trade.
The subjects dealt with include competition of Australian wines on the British market, the development of Northern Australia, migration, meetings, travel arrangements and expenses. A 1926 cable from Sir Joseph Cook, commenting on a League of Nations Council meeting and the International Labour Conference, and an invitation to the opening of St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney are also to be found in the series.
The records were transferred to archival custody from the Prime Minister's Department in December 1955 (ref. RWC2/1/64).
