Description of series:
CP362/3 comprises copies of speeches delivered by Prime Minister Stanley Melbourne Bruce between 1923 and 1928. Although only representing a small proportion of the addresses Bruce would have made while Prime Minister, the accession contains speeches delivered at several significant events including the 1928 welcome in Canberra to Charles Kingsford Smith after his flight across the Pacific, the 109th anniversary of Empire Day in 1928, the dinner to welcome the Rt Hon L C S Amery (British Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs) to Australia in 1927, the Government dinner to visiting Japanese dignitaries and naval personnel in 1928 and speeches made at two of the first conferences held in Canberra in 1928 (the Institute of Engineers' Annual Conference and the Australian Newspapers' Conference)
Also included is a 1928 speech by Dr Earle Page, Commonwealth Treasurer at the time, on the financial agreement between the Commonwealth and the States and an index to the Prime Minister's speeches and answers in the House of Representatives for 1923 compiled by the Publicity Branch of the Prime Ministers Department.
The Prime Ministers Department transferred CP362/3 to the National Archives in 1955.
