Series note
This accession appears to be a partial master set of carbon copy notes or transcripts of deputations received by Prime Minister Stanley Melbourne Bruce or by Acting Prime Minister Dr Earle Page in Bruce's absence. The notes primarily cover deputations occurring between 1926 and 1929. The deputations received represent a wide range of community, industry, employer, employee, agricultural, charity, church and returned soldier organisations seeking to lobby the Prime Minister on a number of different issues. Also included are two incomplete transcripts of deputations received by Prime Minister William Morris Hughes in 1919 (items 57 and 59). Generally, the deputation notes take the form of detailed verbatim transcripts prepared after the meeting. Some appear to have been recorded and prepared by Bruce's Private Secretary, Mr GB Cooke. Associated memoranda are occasionally included. A number of the items contain duplicate copies of the deputation notes and some have 'For Deputation Book' pencilled on them. It is evident that these are only some of the deputations received during Bruce's term as Prime Minister with none from his first two years in power (1923-24) included. National Archives has used a single number system to control the 60 items comprising CP362/2, largely based on the numbering of entries in the 'Index Book to Deputations' (item 60).
