Description of series:
Typescript letter from His Majesty King George VI to the Prime Minister of Australia (Joseph Aloysius Lyons), concerning his role in the gift of an oil painting. The painting was presented to the King and Queen on the occasion of their Coronation in 1937. Also included is a photographic copy of the illuminated address, signed by the Prime Ministers of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, which accompanied the painting.
History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
This series was transferred to the Archives Division of the National Library by the Prime Minister's Department on 13 August 1952. Originally accessioned as CP221, it was renumbered CP144/1 in 1954 (ref. RWC2/1/28). The series description was revised as part of the Prime Ministers' Papers Project in December 2001.
