Leo Roger
Spurway Price was born on 26 November 1945 in Sydney, New South Wales.
He attained
a Diploma in Public Administration from the New South Wales Institute of
Technology. Positions held during Roger Price's career prior to entering
Federal Parliament include Account Manager, Telecom Australia and later Deputy
Chairman of the Mt Druitt Hospital from 1980 to 1985. He was also a member of
the Mt Druitt Technical College Advisory Committee from 1980 to 1986. Roger
Price served on the Blacktown City Council between 1981 and 1987 as an Alderman
and as Deputy Mayor from 1984 to 1985.
Following
election to the House of Representatives in 1984 as Member for Chifley, NSW, Roger Price has been a member of various parliamentary
committees such as House of Representatives Standing and Select as well as
Joint Statutory Committees. As a member of the Joint Standing Committee on
Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade he visited Papua New Guinea in March 1999,
East Timor in December 1999, New Zealand in April 2003, Indonesia in Dec 2003
and February 2004 and the Solomon Islands in December 2003.
Roger
Price's other committee memberships include: Caucus Committees on Economic and
Industrial Relations; Transport and Communications; Employment, Education and
Training; and Convenor, Telecommunications Working Party. Roger Price has also
been involved in parliamentary appointments such as Member, Advisory Council
for Inter-government Relations from 1985 to 1986.
Roger Price
was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister from 4 June 1991 to
27 December 1991 and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence from
27 December 1991 to 24 March 1993. He was a member of the Speaker’s Panel from
19 February 2002 to 31 August 2004 and retired from politics in 2010.
