Wendy Fatin was born in 1941 at Harvey in Western Australia.  Her qualifications and occupation before entering Federal Parliament included Adviser to Minister for Repatriation and Compensation and Minister for Social Security 1974-75;  RN (W Aust), B App Sci (Nsg) (WAIT), FCNA;  political research assistant; founder member, Women's Electoral Lobby.
 
Wendy Fatin was elected to the House of Representatives for Canning (Western Australia) in 1983 and re-elected, following 1984 electoral redistribution, for Brand (Western Australia) in 1984 and 1987.  
The electorate of Brand was created in the 1984 redistribution of Federal electorate boundaries.  In the 1988 redistribution it underwent significant changes losing the local government areas of Armadale and Serpentine-Jarrahdale to the north and gaining the Shire of Collie in the south.  It now includes the local government areas of Kwinana, Rockingham, Mandurah, Murray, Waroona, Harvey (except Australind) and Collie.  Brand includes the State Legislative Assembly seats of Rockingham, Mandurah and Murray and parts of Peel, Wellington and Collie.
 
In April 1990 Wendy Fatin was appointed Minister for Local Government and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women.  
In December 1991 Wendy Fatin was appointed Minister for Arts and Territories leaving the Minister for Local Government but remaining as Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women.

Wendy Fatin retained the seat of Brand in the March 1993 election but chose to stand down from Cabinet.  She retired prior to the general election of 2 March 1996.
