Wheeldon, John Murray
Career within Commonwealth
John Murray Wheeldon was admitted as Barrister and Solicitor in
1952.
He has been a member of the Western Australian State Executive of
the ALP since 1959. He was elected to the Senate for Western Australia in 1964
(his term began on 1 July 1965) and again in 1970.
He was appointed Labor Minister for Repatriation and Compensation
on 12 June 1974, and was given the additional portfolio of Social Security on 6
June 1975. His ministerial appointments ceased when the Liberal caretaker
ministry came into being on 12 November 1975 following the dissolution of
Parliament on 11 November.
Senator Wheeldon was re-elected as one of the six senators for
Western Australia at the general elections, on 13 December 1975.
