James Robert McClelland, a solicitor, was chosen by the Parliament of New South Wales under section 15 of the Constitution to represent the State in the Senate on 16 March 1971 in place of Mr J P Ormonde (deceased).  This term ended on 30 June 1971.  Senator McClelland was elected to the Senate for New South Wales in 1970 and the term began on 1 July 1971.  Senator McClelland is a member of the Australian Labor Party.
