Agency note
[N.B. It is not known whether the Corps had separate records] The Civil Aliens Corps was established on 3 May 1943 under the National Security (Aliens Service) Regulations.

The Corps was to consist of such persons as were directed to serve therein. Members of the Corps were to perform any service other than armed service or service in the Defence Force. The National Security (Aliens Service) Regulations had precedence over the National Security (Man Power) Regulations in as much as the Minister could, by order published in the Gazette or served personally or by post on the person affected, direct that any male refugee alien or male enemy alien who had attained the age of eighteen but had not attained the age of sixty years and was not a member of the Defence Force shall serve in the Civil Aliens Corps.

Although the National Security (Aliens Service) Regulations were administered by the Minister of the Army, Part III of the Regulations which established the Civil Aliens Corps was administered by the Minister for the Interior. The Minister for the Interior could authorize the Director-General of Allied Works to exercise any or all of the powers and functions of the Minister. The authorization was effected on 4 May 1943 (Commonwealth of Australia Gazette No. 96 of 6 May 1943). In practice, the Director-General of Allied Works dealt with Aliens' problems of pay and conditions, while the aspect of allocation of manpower was given to the Director-General of Manpower, both of the above acting under authority delegated by the Minister for the Interior.

The cost of administering the Corps was considered to be too high in relation to its value and in May 1945 the War Cabinet decided to disband the Corps. The men required by the Allied Works Council were enrolled in the Civil Construction Corps and the remainder were placed under the Director-General of Manpower.
The National Security (Aliens Service) Regulations (Statutory Rules 1945 No. 153) repealed Part III of the Regulations, thus officially abolishing the Civil Aliens Corps on 20 September 1945.
