Summary heading
This series contains the orchestral parts for music written for films produced by the Australian News and Information Bureau.
Function and purpose
These records consist of handwritten sheet music which was used by orchestra members when the music was rehearsed and recorded. Films represented include documentaries such as "Life in Australia - Wagga Wagga" and features such as "The Jackaroo", as well as training films. Tommy Tycho is one of the composers represented.
System of arrangement and control
The scores are arranged by Film Production number, a system that was used throughout the Bureau and later in Film Australia for many types of records, and gaps in the numbering system for this series show where a project already given an FP number did not reach the full production stage, or did not require an original film score.
Relationships with other records
The series is related to Australian Archives Commonwealth Records Series C4482 Music scores, single number series with FP [Film Production] prefix, which contains the original sheet music used by conductors at Film Australia and in many cases covers the same film productions as the orchestral parts series.
