This series comprises 62 files which were created between 1956 and 1990. They are arranged and listed in date order, except for four
files labelled 'Confidential', covering the years 1964-1973, which are listed at the beginning.
 
Nearly all the files have an 'N' prefix [or other codes such as 'NPK' for Port Kembla].  They are annotated by year followed by a running number, e.g. N76/5439.  Each year has a different colour coding.  Many of the files have papers incorporated which were created before the file was set up.
 
The subjects covered by the files include Australian Customs staff, organisation and property, as well as those related to particular companies e.g. the Shell Company's Clyde Refinery or particular individuals, e.g. someone who attempted to smuggle birds out of the country.  Several have notes on them regarding historical or archival significance [included on inventory].
