These records consist of various papers from both internal and external sources collected by Margaret Foster and Professor R MacLeod in two separate research projects. The aim of each project was to write a history of the organisation, but neither was completed. The documents collected by Margaret Foster range in date from 1946 to 1978, while Prof MacLeod's records cover the years between 1978 and 1981.
This series consists of large envelopes containing loose sheet documents on a particular subject and date range detailing research material on the history of the Australian Atomic Energy Commission.
Subjects include Ministerial statements, senate Hansard and Estimates Committee, Atomic Energy Acts, Nuclear Science and Technology Branch reports, Australian Atomic Tests and Nuclear Policy, 'Friends of the Earth' colour photographs, Uranium related documents and press cuttings, Advisory Committees, nuclear power in Australia, Three Mile Island - Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade cables, Secrecy and Scientific Freedom - an M.A. qualifying thesis by Elizabeth Ann Newland 1977, Ranger environmental enquiry, Engineering research, Chronological order of events - Australian Atomic Energy Commission and Nuclear Industry, Admin arrangements and appointments, Keesings Contemporary Archives extract notes, public administration constitutional and associated issues, various newspaper clippings and articles. This series also contains a card index [in box 3] sorted by subject (except for one unsorted set) and was compiled mainly from the Australian Atomic Energy Commission's newspaper clipping file and from a number of other sources.
It appears that a loose system of chronological arrangement and control is used.
