This series consists of the entries, forwarded to the Australian National Anthem and Flag Quest, which was held in 1971-72. The entries were received into custody in a random state. They have since been sorted into rough alphabetical order. That is the A’s; B's, C's, D's, etc. have been collated together. The series will still require extensive arrangement and description work as some entries are in poor condition and others have been written on just about anything the contestant could lay their hands on. A number of contestants submitted their entries on reel to reel tapes, cassette tapes and phonographic records (33 and 45). Most of the sound recordings are in poor condition.
In 1991 the audio recordings were arranged and described by Australian Archives with each recording being allocated an item number. It was found that as the majority of entries had been recorded on 3" or 5" domestic audio tapes and on cassettes, most were in poor condition. All items have been copied onto 10" audio tape (preservation and duplicating copy of each item). A reference cassette copy has also been made.
This series contains audiovisual formats. As audiovisual formats are either redundant or susceptible to deterioration, some items in this series have been copied to ensure their preservation. Preservation copying involves the creation of preservation, duplicating and reference copies. These copies can be found in the following series:
Preservation copies: C5390, Audio preservation copies of C1969, Correspondence and sound recordings in relation to entries submitted for the National Anthem Contest
Duplicating copies: C5391, Audio duplicating copies of C1969, Correspondence and sound recordings in relation to entries submitted for the National Anthem Contest
