Description of series:
This series is apparently the residue of a heavy culling of the Department's general correspondence series. It includes prisoner of war, women's call-ups and other specifically wartime matters. Many files are unjacketed and none have file subjects.
History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
Prior to transfer: This series originated with the inception of Manpower as a simple consecutive number miscellany. When the numbers became abnormally large, instead of adopting the annual series method, letter prefixes were added. When the A series became too large, a B series was created and so on down to T. The final (T) series had only been in operation for about two months when Manpower was abolished. The series was carried on by the successor agency, the Commonwealth Employment Service, and this portion covering the Manpower period was transferred to archival custody in 1950.
