Function and purpose
On 1
January, 1965, Form P1 - Passenger List Outwards - was replaced by the
'Manifest' Commonwealth of Australia, Migration Act, form M.310. The information contained on this form is as
follows:
M.310 Outwards
Passenger Manifest - The form is in 2 foolscap sized parts: Part I shows name
of ship, port at which passengers embarked, date of departure, signature of
Master; Part 2 shows port of embarkation, date, serial number, passenger's
surname and initials, Port of intended disembarkation.
With
this new system the detailed information relating to embarking Passengers,
previously contained on Form P1, was then recorded on a Passenger card
completed by, or in respect of each such Passenger. The outgoing passenger
cards are held in Canberra as series A1198.
Three
copies of outwards passenger manifests were presented at each Australian port
on the outward voyage.
