Function and purpose

This series consists of several sets, totaling almost three hundred pages, of translations of (mainly Japanese) naval cypher messages. The messages are grouped together by subject or general content. They appear to have been selected because of content interest and then compiled by the staff of CA 7137, 'FRUMEL' after the defeat of the Japanese in World War 2. Several sets are signed by J B Newman (Commander RAN) who was in charge of 'FRUMEL' in 1945.
