Items medium note
This series consists of three leather bound volumes giving details of payments to members of New South Wales Contingents who served in South Africa.
Australian Archives has imposed the control symbols [1] - [3] on each volume.
The spine on each volume is titled "Contingent Ledger".
The front of each volume contains an alphabetical index which refers to a folio number. The entries are arranged one per folio in numerical order. Each entry contains details on payee including regimental number, rank, name, pay details/allowances and date of return.
Some entries have annotations in red ink, made up until 1908.
There are loose notes also dated as late as 1908 about payees, accounts, etc., interleafed in each volume. There are also loose notes taken from volume [3] contained in a separate acid free folder. The folder is marked as an attachment to volume [3].
In 1989 this series of records was copied in full by Australian Archives as part of its reprographic program.
In 2017, the microfilm copy of this series was digitized and uploaded to National Archives of Australia RecordSearch database.The digital image can be viewed by clicking the RecordSearch 'Digital item" icon.
Temporary consignment B5200/8 was destroyed on 25 May 2017.
