There are two printed items in this series. Item [A] has been bound together by thread and consists of the following:
The First Victorian Contingent for South Africa. Nominal roll... of the Victorian Contingent for service in South Africa, sent in accordance with the cablegram of the Right Honourable The Secretary of State for the Colonies of 4th October 1899; A copy of Statute No. 1627, 63 VR 12 January 1900:
An Act to provide for the government discipline and maintenance of a Second Victorian Contingent for service with her Majesty's regular forces in South Africa;The Second Victorian Contingent for South Africa.
Two companies of Mounted Infantry. Nominal roll [of those] ... embarked on SS EURYALUS on 13 January 1900 for service in South Africa;
A copy of Statute No. 1655, 63 VR 20 February 1900: An Act to provide for the government discipline and maintenance of a Third Victorian Contingent for service with her Majesty's regular forces in South Africa;
The Victorian Military Forces. Third [or Bushmen's] Contingent for service in South Africa. Two companies of Mounted Rifles, Rolls of officers, non-commissioned officers and men.
The Cameron's Scouts are included;The nominal roll of nurses sent to South Africa for service under the Imperial government, in terms of the cablegram from the High Commissioner of the Cape, 3 February 1900;
The muster roll of Victorian Contingent [Five companies of Mounted Rifles] of Imperial-Australian regiment and Wound-Pensions and compassionate allowance granted by the Imperial government in the cases of officers and men wounded on active service. London "Daily Telegraph" fund.
The first entry in item [A] is Major Eddy, George and the last entry is the article titled "London Daily Telegraph Fund.
Item [B] contains two muster rolls. The muster roll of Victorian Contingent (Five companies of Mounted Rifles) of Imperial Australian Regiment has Lt-Col Kelly, Nicholas as the first entry and Pte Friend, Joseph as the last entry.
The muster roll of the 5thContingent for service in South Africa has Capt Meadows, Abraham as the 1st entry and Private Turner, Richard as the last entry.
Each item gives basic information on the enlistee such as name, rank, martial status, corps, occupation and usual residence.
Australian Archives has imposed [A] and [B] as control symbols on each item.
- Item A has been placed in two manilla folders.
- Item B is contained between two cardboard folios held by paper fasteners.
This series has been copied in full as part of Australian Archives reprographic program.
