Function and purpose
This series consists of a folio typescript list held by a brass paper fastener of "Returns of Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and Men of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th contingents and the 7th Battalion Australian Commonwealth Horse who have been killed or died in South Africa during the period commencing November 1899 to 16 May 1902."
In the front list there are two tables of vessels and dates of departure of all Contingents.
The list is arranged by Contingent and includes details of regimental number, rank, name, contingent, date/place/cause of death, martial status, general order and next of kin.
This series has been copied in full as part of Australian Archives reprography program.
