This series consists of various records related to and used for the selection of under-age British migrants by the Chief Migration Officer of Australia House in London. The records of successful applicants were forwarded to the Immigration Department, Victorian Branch if the migrant intended tosettle in Victoria.
The assisted passage application form used depended on the age of the migrant, ie LEM3 Child Migration, LEM4 Youth/Juvenile Migration or LEM2 the form used for adults. The latter was used for persons aged from 18 up to 21. These forms give the particulars of the migrant, his/her parents and brothers/sisters; education; intelligence; institutional care if any; medical history; parents/guardians consent; relatives in Australia; institutions guarantee to repay passage money; assessment and approval. For older persons employment history and financial assets may be added tothe information.
Other records may consist of Form K Medical Examination ; X-ray requests and reports; occupational assessment sheets; consent of parents/guardian; extracts of birth certificates; and correspondence. The whole series was registered as file V65/65284 B922, however, this was only to achieve artificial control in Victoria as B922 is a correspondence series including shipping and aircraft movement files.
Some selection records for under-age migrants may have been transferred to the Australian Archives as a part of B3986.
