This series consists of copies of two volumes of photographs of Australian servicemen who were either held as prisoner or listed as missing in the Far East or South West Pacific Islands during the Second World War. The photographs are printed in numerical order by L of C areas of enlistment. Volume one contains numbers with prefixes QX, Q, NG, PX, NGX and NX. Volume two contains numbers with the prefixes VX, SX, DX, WX and TX. Each page has 48 photographs - two of each of 24 servicemen. Each pageis printed on both sides.
The volumes were compiled 'for the assistance of PW Contact and Inquiry Units and for guidance of interrogation officers in their duties of helping to establish the fate of PsW. and missing personnel'. They have hard red covers. The pages are looseleaf, held to the covers with string or lace. The spines are labelled by hand 'POW Vol. 1 (or Vol.2) Photos. The first page of each volume gives the title and an explanation of the contents and is marked 'Copy No. 102'. The series date range on this registration was ended arbitrarily by the Australian Archives during a review in 1993/94 as no consignments for this series had been transferred for more than 10 years. If a further consignment is transferred, the date range will be revised in line with agency advice.
