Series note
This series consists mainly of publications, the bulk of which were collected by the Commonwealth Investigation Service during and soon after the Second World War.

The publications are those of organisations of possible security risk, in particular, the Communist Party of Australia (CPA), the Waterside Workers Union and other trade unions, the League of Rights and migrant groups.

The publications include booklets, pamphlets, circulars, notes for speakers, election propaganda, songs, posters, press releases of foreign embassies and newspapers.

Originally the material had tags attached which recorded the
identification symbol of the agent who collected the item and how and where the item was found. These tags were removed prior to transfer to Archives. The material has been arranged into numbered bundles by the controlling agency.

Also included in the series is the Transcript of Proceedings of the case before the Commonwealth Court of Conciliation and Arbitration No. 7 and 9 of 1950, Lawrence Short and the Federated Ironworkers Association of Australia, as well as the evidence of the case before the High Court - Dean V Latham and a report on allegations made in circulars relating to this case. Some more recent material from the ASIO Library has been included in the series.
