This series consists of soldiers' personnel files maintained by the operation Headquarters in Vietnam. Standard Department of Army personnel file covers were used and contain documents relating to all personnel matters including postings, promotions, and reports. Two systems of arrangement can be observed, but the files were re arranged in alphabetical order some time before their transfer to Central Army Records Office (CARO), Melbourne, in 1980.
Normally unit files are selectively combined with CARO's own dossiers after the serviceman has been discharged, but the agency has not done this with these files. They wish to retain them as a separate entity in view of the projected study of the effects of defoliants upon the health of servicemen. Many of the documents will be duplicated in the personnel dossiers held by CARO.
The series date range on this registration was ended arbitrarily by the Australian Archives during a review in 1993/94 as no consignments for this series had been transferred for more than 10 years. If a further consignment is transferred, the date range will be revised in line with agency advice.
